Insurance & Risk Management Considerations: Renewable Energy

Hub International is one of the largest privately held insurance brokerages in North America with $58BN of assets under management, 6,100 people across North America. Our Sustainability and Renewable Energy Practice focuses on providing best in class risk management and insurance placement services to clients designing, manufacturing, developing, installing and operating solar, wind, BESS, hydro, biogas, geothermal and hydrogen assets as well as emerging technology and ancillary services focused on low and no carbon technologies.

Our talk will focus on Insurance and Risk Management considerations for renewable energy, from supply chain to natural catastrophes and codes & standards. Our goal is to provide insight into how the insurance industry views risks and mitigations as well as impacts on terms, conditions and pricing.

JEN AITCHISON

Prior to joining HUB International Canada in 2024 as Renewable Energy Practice Leader, Jen spent the preceding 17 years dedicated to the renewable-energy and sustainability sector. She brings unmatched expertise in assessing renewable-energy risk and crafting transparent, economically fit-for-purpose insurance solutions—enabling project success via access to capital, appropriate contractual risk-o loading and retention, and long-term project-lifecycle sustainability.

Jen possesses a comprehensive understanding of renewable-energy technologies and the project-development process—from site selection through to decommissioning. She adeptly navigates the complex stakeholder landscape of renewable-energy projects (including independent power producers, original equipment manufacturers and EPC companies) and the challenges they face.

In addition to her insurance-industry acumen for renewable energy, Jen is a passionate industry advocate. She is a co-founding advisor of Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE), has served on the boards of Canadian Renewable Energies Association (CanREA), Energy Storage Canada (ESC) and TREC SolarShare, currently advises Efficiency Capital Corporation and chairs CanREA’s Insurance Committee, while also supporting the Trellis Foundation as advisor.
