Hydrogen Working Group - Workshop Series
Hydrogen Cities & End of Year Wrap Up
Knowledge Base: All Levels

When: Friday, November 26th | 8:30am - 9:30am Est
Where: Zoom, FREE Event!

  • Did you know that Toyota is building the world's first programmable city powered by hydrogen? Yes, it's true! Woven City will be constructed at the base of Mt Fuji. Also, South Korea will be constructing 3 hydrogen cities into 2022.
  • Group discussion on hydrogen cities from around the world, as well as end-of-year wrap up and ideas for S.H.O.W. in 2022.

In our final Switch Hydrogen Ontario Working session for 2021, the session facilitators Harriet Waterman and Andrew Bacchus  are pleased to welcome Sho Fujita, PhD candidate at Queen's University, as a guest speaker presenting a discussion on hydrogen cities. Participants can expect:

  • an overview of the new hydrogen cities in Korea, Japan, and Lancaster City in California and the "lifestyle" offer to the residents
  • to learn how the hydrogen cities function using hydrogen based technologies

Background on Sho Fujita

I grew up in a small sea-side town nearby a mountain in Japan. Surrounded by lots of nature, I was amazed at the great power of nature, but meanwhile I realized that our technologies have not been matured yet to efficiently utilize the energy. Since then, my career goal has been to contribute to the development of renewable energy technologies.

My research career started with a project focusing on catalytically active and durable electrode materials to promote green hydrogen production. I was collaborating with industrial companies and acquired both academic and industrial perspectives on electrochemical processes. I obtained broad knowledge of hydrogen technologies on fuel cells and hydrogen storage applications. To deepen my knowledge in electrochemistry and learn more about different applications, I moved to Canada for a PhD program at Queen's University and started a new research on the synthesis of nanomaterials for the use in batteries.
